Nordic Testing Days 2024

As a mobile apps QA you almost certainly test an application with the backend or 3rd party services communication. What does the app send to the backend? What data it receives? If you are curious to know the answer to those questions and want to implement the workflow of testing applications traffic into your daily activities, then this workshop is for you. We'll take a look how to setup the Burp Suite and proxy on your phone and how to read and modify application's and server traffic.

Prerequisites for attending the workshop:

• Attendees should bring their own laptops if they want to try the software and techniques that are being shown, instead of just watching.
• Attendees also need one mobile phone (iOS or Android) and a cable to connect it to the laptop.
• The OS doesn't matter, both Burp Suite (main app) and Proxyman (backup app) have installations for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
• Attendees need to install the following programs (Both tools are free to use):
  • Burp Suite Community Edition (https://portswigger.net/burp/communitydownload)
  • Proxyman (https://proxyman.io/)
• Attendees also need to install the test app on the phone depending on the phone's OS:
• If you have an Android phone, you have two options:

• If you have an iOS phone, you can:

  Burp Suite requires newer versions of Java, at least Java 11, better Java 17. Also, if you will be using TMDA app (apk or from source), it's better to create an account (though you can do it during the workshop) on the tmdb website: https://www.themoviedb.org/signup
